Businesses are not all about profit and loss, but also about building a good relationship with the customer for long-term business success. To define Brand Engagement per se, it signifies an emotional commitment to a brand. More than brand awareness, it is kind of a word-of-mouth marketing strategy to increase customer satisfaction. 

Social media engagement is one of the primary ways to create brand awareness. Narrating a story in a language that audiences speak is the best way to grab their attention. So, if we go by the 8-sec attention span thumb rule, the message must be crisp, inspiring, and insightful. Anything going against these simple rules might hamper your brand engagement in a major way.

Here’s a list of things that can prove detrimental to Brand Engagement:-

1.Lack of industry knowledge:

It is important to understand the vision and mission of the industry you belong to. Unless that is clear, you will not know how to strike the right chord. Deep industry research will give you an idea about what customers are looking for, the audience base, and how do they define their choice of products. So, if you haven’t yet done your market research, it’s going to hamper the lead opportunities directly. 

2.Absence of a persona:

Most brand marketers fail to build a persona for their target audiences – which age group they belong to, their background, time of engagement, social media preferences, and more. Believe it or not, all the above play an important role when it comes to social media engagement. Without these pieces of information, social media posts will be futile and a waste of energy and resources.

3.Lack of effort:

Most brand marketers fail to realize the difference customized posts make. For instance, the messaging should be different on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. This because often the same customers are present on all the platforms, and seeing the same message repeatedly turns them off big time. So, make that extra effort to connect with customers every time they come across the brand name on various social media platforms.

4.Outdated tools and approaches:

A major part of customer engagement is dependent on technology. For instance, if a technical glitch comes in the way of a customer call, there are high chances that the customer will never call back or even choose to attend your call. So, if you do not have the contact details of the customer, you might lose a lead. It is, therefore, important that every tool you purchase first goes through a strict evaluation. It must be noted that the equipment you use must add value to your customer base. 

5.Lack of involvement:

Employee motivation is the key to create the best brand engagement strategies, most brand marketers fail to do so. Organize brainstorming sessions, gather opinions about different decisions, and make them feel comfortable in their roles. The more motivated they will be, the best they can perform. Give the employees ample opportunities for growth and see them take your brand to new heights.

6.Lack of empathy:

Brand engagement means touching the human chord. Most brands believe that selling the product is the priority, but the customer might choose not to buy unless he resonates with the brand. So, the idea is to upgrade the brand to meet customer expectations. Engaging customers is the soul of marketing strategies, which will help improve company sales.

7.Lack of wittiness:

Social media posts have to be witty to grab attention. That needs a lot of planning, which is often overlooked while building a brand marketing strategy.  If you check Twitter, you will find most of the tweets are sassy, which gets people to respond.  

8.Know what’s offensive:

 It is good to be witty, but not at the expense of somebody else. Let’s avoid being offensive and hitting the sentiments of the customers directly. 

9.Lack of customer communications:

According to a popular survey, 70% of US retailers are placing customer prioritization at top of their list. For instance, sending out an anniversary or happy birthday e-mail goes that extra mile in making a mark. People will consider since you remember their important dates. Most of the companies fail to recognize their importance and end up landing in a pitfall in terms of leads.
